Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine Special Statement: Incorporating quality improvement roles into your maternal-fetal medicine career

In July 2023, the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM) Patient Safety and Quality Committee (PSQC) hosted a facilitated panel discussion focused on how to incorporate quality improvement (QI) and patient safety roles into a maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) career. In addition, the SMFM PSQC conducted an online survey of SMFM members via the SMFM May 2024 member newsletter to gain further insight into the roles, responsibilities, and allotted time for MFM subspecialists involved with QI efforts. This document reports on key themes and practical strategies that emerged from both the SMFM PSQC panel session and SMFM survey responses to begin and sustain QI-focused MFM careers.
